Microgreens are the seedlings of edible vegetables, herbs and flowers. They are harvested when the first leaves form, usually at about 10 days (depending on variety). Microgreens grow densely in a medium like soil or hydroponically. Because microgreens are harvested at the seedling state, they have concentrated levels of nutrients and flavor.
These are all different stages of a plant’s growth:
Microgreens are incredibly easy to incorporate into your meals. If you are brand new to eating microgreens, an easy way to start is to use microgreens in place of lettuce. On sandwiches, burger, wraps, tacos, ect. Microgreens are also great on eggs, salads, soups and so much more. Take a look at my recipes to get some more ideas!
It's easy! You can either email me with what microgreens or condiments you're after, and I can email you payment instructions, or you can visit me at the Marlborough Farmers Market, held at Blenheim A&P Park every Sunday morning, from 9am - 12pm.
In sunny Blenheim, Marlborough. I grow all my microgreens at my home with no artificial nasties.
My range is kept updated with what stock I have. If you don't see what you're looking for, let me know and I can try and organise something for you!
Absolutely. All of my microgreens are organic, NON-GMO, untreated and I only fertilise with a nutritious seaweed concoction.
My favourite by far is sunflower. But I also like the freshness and crispness of pea and amaranth for the colour. Micro basil is also amazing in Italian recipes.
